Heathrow supergraphics
Let’s face it, whilst Heathrow is having an amazing facelift – the new T2 opened in 2014 – some bits are looking a bit tired. As an ongoing project to address this, we’re responsible for supplying supergraphics to add some colour and excitement to the passenger’s journey. Another simple concept; destinations on the way out, London and the UK on the way in.
To date we have installed over 100 large images – the biggest being 35m x 5m – across all terminals.
Sourced from all over the world, through libraries and direct with panoramics photographers such as Nick Woods, we try to show destinations in new perspectives rather than the normal tourist images.
Our problem is one of scale – literally. Most images supplied are big – about 300Mb – but that’s still nowhere big enough for the quality we want. We resize and retouch up to the size and crop we want, often creating 12Gb in the process. These are then supplied in strips to the printers but only allowing them 2mm overlap (a bit of quality assurance!).
