Commissioned back in 2006, we were asked to visually ‘hide’ some of the less glamorous aspects of airport operations from the passengers. The wave shaped building features a fully glazed end that looks out over the runway. The problem is it also shows the baggage belts and tugs and other less presentable objects.
Our concept was simple – the colours of sky, grass and sea. We then designed intertwining coloured frosted film to cascade down the stairs – acting as a strong visual ‘character’ but also doing the required job of hiding what lay beyond.
This concept was then expanded to cover the cafeteria windows (which didn’t have a view of anything) and the mezzanine balcony.
It was supported where possible with inspiring images with the same theme/colour range.
Although quite old, it’s nice to see that the identity still retains the wave forms we created all those years ago.
